Hi fellows (or the DS die hard),

Stanley ordered a laser gun from the web, and will arrive before the the date. Just chatted with him regarding the rules of the match. Since this competition is rather new to our club, we have to define some guildlines.

We propose the following:

We will hold two classes, moldies (disregard the size) and formies.
Only one plane flies at any one time.
The pilot has one minute to gain heigh.
He then has to enter into the DS track (the line between the forward slope and the back side).
Should he fail to enter the track within a minute, he get a 'DNS' (did not start)
He can fly in the track for 20 circles as mixuium.
The fastest circle will be counted in that attemp.
The time will be recorded, and then put into the current F3F's calculation (fastest could gain 1000 points).
The timing in the subsequent circle (i.e. the 21 st circle and so on) would not be counted.
Should the pilot leave the track before the completion of the 20 circles ( due to scareness), only the best timing will be recorded.
Should he crash, only the best circle will be counted, and he won't be awarded a 'DNF' (did not finish).
Landing is on his own risk, and won't affect the result.

Any comment?

(sorry for the typing error, I am already drunk, as too much wine consumed!)

I would also propose to ban alcohol on the field, otherwise it is too dangerous to helpers as well as on-lookers nearby 8)

We can calculate the score based on F3F way of scoring, but we do not need to discard the personnel worst round.

We will also have a fastest man title.

Perhaps, we can have three classes; foamy class, 60" moldy class and open class (most likely, this will be for big planes, like F3F or scales)

We need to implement some safety precaution for the helpers. Any suggestion? e.g., wearing a helmet, build a shield for the radar guner, etc.

There is a link to the DS fest ccompetition held in Cape Blanco, USA in year 2002.

http://www.shredair.com/album/dsfest/dsfest7.html

The rules are similar. They have 1 minute climb-out time. They only measure 10 circle runs as valid.

Just my 0.02 ... fully agree with Stanley the need to address safety issues. DS tends to push pilots & planes to extreme limits :?

Even with top DS fingers, it's not uncommon to hearing incidents like :

- Broken wing join on air
- Aileron servo-gear worn out
- v-tail fell out, etc

which made planes out of control

I strongly agree that "SAFETY" is the most important concern for DS contest. Suggest to impose safety line for observers.

Moreover, I think 2 classes are appropriate because I don't think too much pilots would use F3F ship for DS. Formie and open class should be enough.

20 circles seem too much. 10 are more or less suitable. It may be difficult to determine if the plane leaves the track. The CD must define clearly before the contest.

Hi Angus,

I agree that two classes should be suffic.

20 circles in mixuium seens OK, the pilot could leave the track whenever he wishes.
For me, 10 or 15 will be fine.

Regards,

各位DS發燒友,DS賽例和比賽詳情巳刊登

http://www.hkrcss.org/DS_Contest_Call.html

天氣預告是吹東北風3至4級,所以在飛鵝山玩DS應該都幾好。唯一可能會延期因為我訂了支Radar Gun還未到貨,美國佬做野都

Well, I have ordered a Radar Gun two weeks ago but somehow it's still not arrived yet! Slow American although they keep the current DS speed record! :x Anyway, in that case we need to postpone the DS contest. I heard that there was fog in Fei Ngo Shan today so there may be fog also tomorrow. Shall we go to Ma On Shan to fly F3F instead?

I will fix a day for the re-scheduled DS contest as soon as possible, may be a day during the Chinese New Year. Any idea?

It was decided that the DS contest will be postponed to 18 March, the earliest available date due to a very busy contest schedule of our club.

Be ready!

Let me remind you that the DS contest will be held on 18 March. I have the radar gun tested and ready for the contest.

Cheers

請問今日有冇飛友上過飛鵝山放機呀?從山下看似乎完全被大霧覆蓋,明日的DS賽相信都無法舉行。況且好似沒有什麼飛友有興趣參賽!不如取消或延期,各位
