How about the competition held on 1-Dec-02 ? I had travelled to the site as per yr instructions on the map but not successful went to there. The route I used which is passing through the police station and along the coastline with fence and cement paved road. I drived and drived for quite a while and crossed the bridge and found it seemed not the road leading to the flying site. Anyhow pls indicate more precisely or was I using the right road ? As I turned back without going to the end of the road.

I came from H.K. & live in Canada since 1988. I was one of the first glider fans as early as 1970. I start my hobby since 1965 & like to fly everything. There are lots of space in Canada but I miss the mountains in H.K. By the way I have my designs published , such as Space Shuttle (Feb 92 RCM), F-117A (Feb 97 RCM)& SR-71 (July 02 RCM).

Very nice web site. I miss the glider flying in HK. When I flew in HK back in those days, we needed to get a radio license every year. I left HK to CANADA in 83, since then I can fly only power planes because there is no hill here. On the other hand the power flight here is excellent since we have two paved runway in the club. When I come back for vacation, I find my flying buddies and fly the glider at the same location that everybody fly. May be I have you in my piles on pictures. When I have time, I will send you some glider pictures from the old day.

Reply to Ming, Well, you should be able to buy Coroplast sheets in major book shops in HK. One of the shop I used to go is in Mong Kok. You know if you go to the Mong Kok train station, there is a foot bridge to walk up to the station, just near the root of the bridge, there is a shop selling office accessory, there you can buy 29"x20" coroplast sheets.

Hope you enjoy bulding the Beetle

You have a winner here..I have enjoyed going thru your pages. It is sure is a good library of gliders..and excellent sites.. I am envious:(

I am original from Malaysia but now reside in Melbourne. I am pretty active with the local clubs and competition coordinator for electric flight competition and indoor meets. Have a look at..www.aefa.asn.au

If you happen to come to Melb call me..we go flying.... except to find a good slope the travel time is around 1.5 hrs.

Do U know Peter Ng ?? he is a good mate of mine when he was in Melb..he sold me his ASW22 and his Nimbus..showed me lots of video of him flying in HK. He was disappointed with our slopes.

I would like to get a price list of what u guys sell in HK.

I'm glad to see that there is an interest overseas for this hobby. I have been flying sailplanes for sixteen years now, and I still love to do it. I scratch built some of my own planes entirely such as a 70 ounce F4U Corsair, P40 Warhawk, both around 50 inch wingspan. Where do I fly such heavy warbirds? I normally fly at Point Fermin in San Pedro, Caifornia, U.S.A. The lift there is pretty consistant and heavier warbirds, above 100 ounces is not uncommon. I also have slope planes and scale planes. I have flown at numerous sites such as Parker Mountain, in Acton, California, U.S.A. and did some dynamic soaring there. Sometimes I like to relax and do some thermal soaring at places like Temple Hill, Pomona, California, U.S.A. or Cajon Pass, Riverside, California, U.S.A., these places have both slope lift as well as thermal lift. These are some of my favorite places to fly at, and if anyone is in town and needs directions, feel free to contact me.

Dear Robert, Your listed link of local RC shop Radar Company LTd. listed address at Austin Road, this is wrong as it is at Austin Avenue. I spent a long time walking around before calling them, thus realising the address is wrong. Please change it so no subsequent person will have to sweat out in the hot sun again. A comprehensive and excellent local soaring site. The author has surely put in a lot of effort in constructing and maintaining it.

Just a small suggestion regarding the Message Board. Can posting of messages on the board be made as soon as they are received? At present, there seem to be a delay of a few hours between the time they are received by the board and posted on it.

Keep on the good work.

I was so surprised when I saw this site because there are not many people interested in this hobby in Hong Kong. And you guys did a great job on organizing and presenting interesting bits about sailplanes.

It is a news to me that Ma On Shan is one of the sites for this activity with the fact that I have lived there for quite a long while. I might go up to the hill some days to see how people're doing there. My dad used to play sailplane when I was really young and I missed to see the plane flying in the sky.

Yo Stanley!

Very nice site, and glad to hear that all those wonderful hills urrounding HK get a few fliers.

I am English and have lived here in Taiwan for many years. I dropped out of soaring the last couple of years due to carreer issues but I am coming back.

I have made all the moulds for an RG15 2-2.5M glass/kevlar fuselage, and I am now working with my old friend Mark Passingham of UK (See QFI "High Performance Homebrews" -Mark writes this) to make an all-moulded all carbon model here in Taiwan which will be the second all-moulded model made by me here. The model is coming to the slopes soon, so look out for excitement about a new F3F called "Harpoon"

I have been making glass models for over 20 years so I know what I am doing(!)

If anyone is interested in Taiwan for all-moulded models or glass/kevlar/carbon fuselages then call me! (886) 037 611869 (H) or 937 243 447 (Mobile)

On 3, 4, and 5 November, I shall be visiting Hong Kong with a tourist group. I think I can get away from the tour group on one or more of those days, and am hoping to visit one of your flying sites when someone is likely to be flying there so I can watch, though, unfortunately, I won't have any of my planes with me..

I live in Duluth, MN, USA, where I teach at a university. I'll be on a professional program visiting China, with Hong Kong as the last stop on the visit.

Hello from Singapore ! Very nice site ! I found some very interesting comments on your planes and the pictures are excellent ! I was wondering if there is any chance for me to watch you guys slope soar when I am in HK at the end of Oct (28th) ? Would certainly love to see the soaring activity in HK. Would be very grateful if you could tell me which sites to visit during that time and I was also interested to find out your comments on the Shooting Star. The reason is that I am interested in either getting the Minij the Mini Ellipse or the Shooting Star... I was looking for a fast, aerobatic and strong soarer that would perform well even in light lift. Would be grateful to hear your opinion.

Pls feel free to e-mail me at anytime. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Cliff,
Thanks for your comments. I agree with you that we should have
more photos on big gliders. The problem is that many
pilots now fly those combat EEPs and they occupy lots of airspace
and they are nondestructable! So it really scare us off for
flying big gliders. Also, flying sites like Ma On Shan are too
remote and it is unsafe to go there alone. By the way, you can
send me some photos if you like to and I will put them in the WEB.
Happy flying!

I just came back to the game after an almost 2 years rest over this hobby. I like the big gliders (at least 4M) which are
vanishing in the small market of HK. To me, big gliders are far better enjoyment than the small ones and I really feel you
should imput photos of big gliders in your site.

Hello Alex,
Nice to meeting you in cyberspace. Perhaps we have met before in Clearwater Bay.
Do you come back to Hong Kong quite often? I also have a friend who used to fly with us, now he lives and works in Taiwan.
May be you can leave your email address so that we can keep contact of, or does your group in Taiwan have a WEB page so
that we can link to. Send us some pictures for flying in Taiwan. Good flying!

It's really nice to see someone making a RC sailplane related web site in Hong Kong.
I found very usefull information on the flying site section. Good work and keep going.
However, I would like to see something like "slope soaring basic" , plane
reviews,
building tips, material supplier list and contact info, etc.
I like the chinese version, but discovered some missing links. See you!
