By using radar gun, we are measuring the speed relative to the gun (ground). The air speed sensor measures the speed relative to the air. When the plane is DSing and when it hits the wind over the ridge there should be a difference to the radar gun's reading.

Yes! But same principle, I think, in DS, the speed measured on the down wind leg should be higher than that of the uphill leg. If we use radar gun to measure the plane speed, we should measure it during the down wind leg to get the highest score. However, for practical reason, I think most of the measurements are done on the uphill leg.

I think a small GPS timer is better.
It give you speed measurement in relation to earth.

The system below is more advance (and more expensive) with real time telemetry and different sensors to select from, including a tiny GPS module!

In fact I do not have much interest in using it to measure the DS speed, but I think these data loggers are very useful in setting up our models. By using them we can know the minimum sink rate, best glide ratio and the highest speed. We can use these data to set up the flaps and elevators for different flight mode and different wing loading.

CM,

Add AI to your Demo with all these devices, your plane will fly F3F on it's own. and may land itself as well
All you have to do is to collect the winners award
