:D :D Dear all,

That was what I heard from some newcomers. I thinks we (the club) has been too concentrated in running F3F in recent years, and overlooked the need of others. Not too many fellow would invest a 3 meters F3F machine until they have confident to do so.

Setting up 60 inches class for F3F race is not a bad idea, this could incite more people to join the F3F family. Man-On-man is so exciting as well.

Any other view??

Regards, :D :D

Causes on few new comers to join RC soaring/gliding may not be the same as less people flying EPP.
EPP is good for new comers to learn flying. EPP is also a good machine for pilots at all skill levels to fly if they do not want to win the title on the yearly award for Highest Accumulation of $$$$$$ Lost on Mid-air. But I can't deny that good moulded planes can offer better performance. It's usual to start with EPP then advancing to other high performance machines.
During the learning curve, advancement to a class from a few hundred $ EPP to a 1 ~ 3 thousand $ 60" range aircraft is common. With the achievement, some may diversify into aerobatics, HLG/DLG and even the F3X while some will stick to their current one in view of budget, availability and accessibility to flying sites and skill improvements. And some may even drop out after they have invested their time & $.
F3F is not the only event on RC soaring. Owing to site availability, supporting facilities and staff, to setup F3F contest is easier than the F3B, J or K.
Some promotions on different events, like LMR, DLG/HLG, bunge launch have been observed. However, there's only a few new faces presented in these groups. Should the ad-hoc events could become an annual or regular event, it will be more attractive for intermediate pilots to invest time & $ on their preferred area(s) and keep on with.

It seems more 'home-brew' models are flown. A large portion found at CWB are made from simple construction with foams, chloroplast, non-costly metarial. Costly is the construction and knowledge to trim fly well. Though the building cost may be higher than just to buy a local made EPP, the satisfaction on putting a drawing/idea to fly may be the dream for some new comers. Not just 'Can Fly', is 'Something Unique'.

Facing these 'Mines' in the sky, I dare not to fly a 60" moulded plane. They're the designers' hopes no matter they can fly good or not. I don't want to mid-air with them even with an EPP.

Generally, there is a simple rule to determine the flying place for the day.

If the wind is easterly and you are big glider fan and want to have good landing site to minimize damage - go to Ma On Shan
http://www.rcsail.com/MaOnShan.htm

If the wind is easterly and you don't want to be alone on the slope - go to Clearwater Bay or Fei Ngo Shan Peak (east face)
http://www.rcsail.com/clearwater.htm
http://www.rcsail.com/fns_a_photos.htm
Generally, Clearwater Bay is more suitable for beginners without a car and Fei Ngo Shan is for more experience pilots and also with a car.

If the wind is northerly, you can go to Clearwater Bay north face
http://www.rcsail.com/cwbN_photos.htm
or Fei Ngo Shan north face
http://www.rcsail.com/fns_d_photos.htm
Same car rule applied.

During the summer, if the wind is southerly or southerwestly, go to Fei Ngo Shan southwest face or south face
http://www.rcsail.com/fns_b_photos.htm
http://www.rcsail.com/fns_c_photos.htm

If there is no wind or very light wind and plenty of sunshine, go to Fei Ngo Shan southwest face, you can fly thermal gliders at noon there.

If you are the one who wants to fly queitly and alone, go to remote places like Ko Lau Wan or Pak Lap Wan
http://www.rcsail.com/OtherSites.htm

Finally, if there is heavy rain, stay home and play FMS.
