Let me kick off this page.
:P :P
This wing (shooting star) was given to me by a master years ago. Please note that the centre section of the wing is intact. Placing it into the trash is a shame. I decided to keep it, as it worth for attention.

Use only micro balloon, but not other filler, as they are heavy. Furthermore, if you wish the surface smooth, use a 'SK-II' stirler!!

Will post the progress next time, regards. :P

As I mentioned before, this wing is a shooting star's wing. Changing the tip to a pointed shape, that means the other side have to go through the same processes!!

Your reply is my compliment! :D

The paint is ordinary canned paint that you could buy in normal hardware shop.

The finishing is a matter of sanding and polishing, plus a little bit of patience.

So work hard!!! :D :D :D

regards,

Dear Pong,

I saw three bottles on display. Other than the Micro ballon, what are the content of the other two ?

Another question, you also displayed a scale, what are the mixture percentage, is it a secret ?

I should be gratful if you would enlighten me.

I used naminating resin. The mixing ratio is 10:3. (resin to hardener). For such a small section to repair, only a few grams of resin needed. That's why a scale is used.

For your information, naminating resin is different with others, the mixing ratio must be accurate. Otherwise, it will either too soft or too crispy.

Hope you could just enjoy the fun of soaring, but not the cumbersome works for repairing. i.e. No crash, no repairing.

Regards.

Dear Pong,

Thank you for your reply.

No, I am not thinking of how to crash while flying. This is only prepare for the worse and if knew what I am capable in the workshop would no doubt give me more confidence whilst my aircraft is airborne.

I think your current thread can form a chapter in a Modle Aircraft Repair Manual.

Very good visual aids has been produced. If a picture is better than a thousand words, then you might have written nearly 20,000 words in the current chapter.

Anyway, I still have a few questions on the current subject.

You have mentioned the mixing ratio about the naminating resin, what about the Micro Ballon? Do you add micro ballon to the mixture ? If so, what is the ratio?

Do you use cloth on the area being repaired? If so, what is it and is there any specifications?

What is the fixing / drying time of the mixed resin ?

Are you using '1500' sand paper? Is this the finest, and do you use coarser sand paper, say '400' / '800' at the beginning of the process?

By the way, is 'SK II' the best? Is there any other recommendations from our lady pilots?

- After you had mixed the laminating resin, then stir with micro balloon thoroughly. The ratio need not that accurate. The manual says the ratio is 3 to 1 in volume (3 parts of balloon to one part of mixed resin).
- After the micro balloon is dried, sand it to shape, and then apply a layer of cloth.
- I used glass cloth. 3 ounces per square meter.
- Such laminating epoxy needs 24 hours to dry.
- I think No. 2000 is the finest that you could get from hardware store.
- Yes, I used 800 at first.

- Concerning the stirrer, any SK2, SK3 or even SK9 could do.

Regards.
