I think we need a sqaudrom of same high-performance aerobatic planes. I would prefer moldy, cross-tail and full aileron. The airfoil should be good for speed as well as invert flight. Any idea?

I think the models must be large and heavy, so that they have relatively constant flying speed in varing wind speed. It is important for formation flight. What do you think about the Voltij?

Hi all,

moldies, cross tail, full aileron, high performance air foil, large and heavy.......etc.

It would be expensive then. I only get 3 meter F3F NYX in mind. Any other suggestion?

Ha Ha Pong-pong you are rich to use the NYX for aerobatic :D
Well I don't think the NYX is good for aerobatic. Have you checked the Voltij? 80in at around HKD3000 I think it is a good candidate for the purpose.

Voltij is good for aerobatic but I think 80" is a bit too big for quick maneuver. I have checked with Voltij and its bigger brother Toon, I think they are a bit too slow for aerobatic roll. I would prefer around 60".
Yellow Brother, would you be interested to design and build such a plane for formation flight?

For small plane, I suggest Phase 6, however it is in kit form only.
Avenger also good, however discontinued for sometime. Yet we can use the copy one "strom" for training purpose.
Also can check with Physco from Airtech.

Why not use the China 2 meter sport plane? It is build for aerobatic, fully molded, affordable price, fast and stable. Only problem is the plane doesn't have rudder control.

We are thinking about 2m+ Delta Wing with ~1m ribbons on both wing tips, Ah Mak can also do the vacuum bagging, I saw his yellow beetle, good enough, right? Ah Mak.

Another advantage for using that plane: Shipping duration from China to Hong Kong takes several days only!

I have one of those at home, flying weight 2200g. But my skills level .........not qualify yet!

Why you guys (especially Stanley  ) like fast flying planes? We are thinking of formation flight, not individual performance. It is very difficult to keep two planes flying together (you can try it yourself next time on the slope), not to mention three or more. The pilots are not on the planes and so it is very difficult to determine the distance between each other.
Remember after every F3F we threw all (well, most) the planes out and flew together? We can still keep a "loosely formation flight" because of the stable flying characteristic of the F3F machines. If they are changed to the 60 inch I'm sure it is not that easy.
Just my 2 cents, don't bombard me

My concept of fast and high performance are interrelated. I think in order to perform a sequence of complicated aerobatic maneuvers, you need to build up the speed of the plane, so the plane must have low drag airfoil and a slippy airfoil should also be fast. I know it is very difficult to use small planes to perform formation flight, however, if we use big planes of over 3m, I think the time it needs to perform aerobatic maneuver is much longer and since glider does not have power, it must build up it energy via potential energy and the energy built up can only be released in a short period of time. Unlike powered plane for which we can do a prolonged aerobatic maneuver, obviously we can not do this with a glider, so I think planes with the size of around 60" are most suitable. This is based on my experience only. Correct me if I am wrong.

WingDragon, do you have information, spec, and photos about this plane? If it is suitable, I think we can modify it to have rudder.

What is the characteristics of an aerobatic planes?

My understanding is:

1, It can fly inverted essentially the same as upright.

2, The 3 axis controls are not coupled.

3, Wide flying speed range.

Then the plane should have,

Zero dihedral to minimize yaw-roll couple.
Zero swept back to minimize yaw-roll couple.
Short vertical stabilizer to minimize yaw-roll couple.
Small aspect ratio to reduce roll-yaw couple.
Spanwise ailerons instead of tip ailerons to reduce roll-yaw couple.
Cross / low tail instead of V tail or T tail.
Relatively thick airfoil to reduce stall speed and less sensitive to speed change.
Symmetrical (not quit sure) airfoil for equal flying characteristic when inverted.
Backward cg and zero decalage so less sensitive to flying speed and less trim in inverted flight.
Long tail moment to compensate for the stability loss in backward cg.
Accurately built and balanced so that flying characteristic does not change with flying speed and attitude.
Optimized wing loading for balanced energy retention and agility.

Any more??

Dear All:

With all these experts like Standley and CM. and enthusiasum from others. its just a matter of time for our new team to begin. i am sure it will take quite some time to practise together. but i am sure every glider lover would be so willingly to spend the time, including myself. i hope i can join, but my skill isnt good enough. but i will try to persuade people in macao to form one team too. cant wait to see it happen.
add oil

Stanley,

花式飛行大概要多少隻機一齊飛呢?機種、SIZE和顏色是否要全部一樣?我很想參加,如果你地要求用
