Just my little comment, not to support nor to disagree . . .

1, Fully charged Lipo is 4.3V per cell, so 2s is around 8.6V.

2, Fully charged NiCd/NiMH is about 1.4V per cell, so 6s is 8.4V and 7s is about 9.8V

3, 1 and 2 is based on unloaded condition. When loaded, NiCd/NiMH can maintain the voltage better.

4, Lipo is lighter than NiCd or NiMH.

I think NiCd/NiMH favours the launch stage, while Lipo has lower sinking rate for the glide. Pilot's choice.

I received different comments about the rules but we need to make the change as little as possible as some of the pilots has already prepared their plane for the contest.

I do not think LiPo battery has any advantage as it drains lesser current than NiMh or NiCd cells at the same weight. If we allow 3S LiPo, then it will become unfair to those who use 7 NiCd/ NiMh cells. So I do not want to make change on this. In fact, the same contests in other countries also fixed on 7 cells.

Regarding to the spot landing score, the title of the contest need to count both Duration and Spot landing the same weight. So it will be more fair to keep 10 points for both sections. To avoid any player to play trick, I want to reduce to Small circle that give Bonus 5 points. Existing circle is 2 feet diameter, I want to reduce it to 1 feet diameter and add one more rule that if a plane landed in first 40 seconds, "0" score will be obtained. See below:

Please comment.

Hi Ah Pong,

I've just removed the motor from a CDROM. The thickness of the stator is only 4mm. Are you using two stators stacked together?

:? :) Hi CM,
The method you've mentioned is called 'double-decker'.The difficulty in making a double-decker is when you stacked two identical stators together, the bell (or so-called can) could not cover the stator completely, and thus, wasting energy. I had dismantled 30 odd CD-ROM, and was able to find just one motor having a stator of 8 mm thickness.
Regards, and happy winding.

Hi Ah Pong,

I have another one which is from a 24X CDROM. The motor is a lot more difficult to disassemble and so I don't know the dimension of the stator. However, it has a BIG bell of 10mm height and the stator should be . . . he he

:P CM,
Are you going to use homemade BL this time? If you wish to do so, then you better do it quick. As you have to calculate the torque, current and the diameter of prop. Should you need magnets, give me a call.

Probably not for not much time left, but will try. My basic plan is the Filip that I used last year.

Strange result yesterday in Pingche:-

2.5M with 500 brushless motor --- > 5 mins.
Ele-easy with homemade brushless motor --- > 6 mins.
Speed 400 with a brushless motor --- > 9 mins.

How to classify? :?:

What do you think this time after you read the trial result, CM?

PatrickYellow,

I think we do not need to make any additional classification on the rules. The spirit of the contest is on testing the flying skills. Both expensive and low cost plane will have chance to win, Control skill, modelling technique and luck are all important. We will play several rounds in the contest (3-5 rounds depends on the number of players) and the same plane must be used in every round. This will avoid player to use hard landing to get higher point in the Spot Landing section.(But every player has one chance to do this)

Stanley is not in HK at the moment so he cannot revise the rule on reducing the spoting diameter from 2 feet to 1 feet. I will have him made the change as soon as possible to below.

Have you test the Spot landing? Is it easy to get 10 points under the revised rule? If we find any plane that showed to be sure win, we will think about addition Classification to the contest.

Hello Ken, I aammmm jooooking about that..... I knew there are not too many ppls here to fly specially to join some contest like this, don't be too serious the class. For the spot landing, it might cause some problems - the grass! If you guys agree, I will bring my grass cutter to try to shorten them down this weekend.

No, it is Beat. Jazz had not yet come out at that time . . .

Just kidding, with the weight of that motor and the batteries my little Filip simply can't fly. :D

You haven't read the trial result above, a speed 400 can fly more than 10 mins.,so do your Filip too!!! just make it as higher as possible!!!!

Patrick, you told me to make it "as powerful as I can" !!!!

My Filip is powered by a speed 300, so it can fly for over 10 minutes. :D
