Dear fellow pilots,

After TR2009 in Korea, we are looking forward to TR2010. In the meeting with fellow pilots of Korea, Taiwan and Singapore during TR2009 in Jeju, we have come to a resolution that, if Australia is unable to hold TR2010, Hong Kong will move forward to hold the event in 2010.

So I have sent a message to Richard Frawley of Australia few days ago asking whether they would be interested in holding the event in 2010. Here is his reply:

Hi,

I think the early answer is that due to government restrictions at
the proposed area in Esperence in WA (its a National Park area) and
the fragility of the ecology, we are not able to propose the race at
this stage. This may change in the future if we get assistance of the
government to provide facilities that will help protect the fragile
wilderness area from damage.

Apart from Western Australia, we do not have that many areas that
have the wind reliable enough to run an international race.

It is unfortunate as Esperence has some of the best wind and slope
conditions in the world.

Jacob attended a small event held there in Jan this year to
reconnaissance the site, and found that the all things were
excellent, the wind blows every day and the slope generates excellent
and consistent lift.

Although we may not be able to run a formal race, there is very
likely that there will be another informal event held in Jan 2010 and
if anyone from Hong Kong or Taiwan would like to attend, we would be
happy to help with arrangements.

Our plan is to meet with the local Government in 2010 and see what
can be done to support the event at a later date.

Regards

Richard

From his message, I have proposed back to him that, Hong Kong will first proceed to organize TR2010, and then a year later, if they have sorted out the issue of Australia government to support the event, then they can consider to hold the event in 2011.

So, here we are, TR2010 in Hong Kong!
We need to hold an organizing committee meeting soon to decide upon the date and some early information for the event.

Cheers!

Dear F3F pilots,

We had a good discussion about the possible date of TR2010 during the HKRCSS committee meeting last week. The decision is

1-3, October 2010

HKRCSS also approved to form an organizing committee for TR2010. Now we would like to invite fellow pilots to join the committee helping to organize this wonderful event.
We hope to hold at least 3 meetings, the first may be in a month time, and the last will be right up to the last few weeks before the contest. The committee posts we have in mind are:

Contest Team Leader (CD): for organizing and overseeing the smooth running of the contest
Treasurer & Registration: for handling money matter and pilot registration
Publicity & local arrangement: for promoting the contest, making banner, contact with local media, and contest photos and movies recorded and post-production
Social Function: for organizing social functions including banquet for participants and our guests
Oversea liaisons: for Taiwan, Korea, Singapore, and Australia

(just joking, we might need a 風水佬 to negotiate with our mighty Wind God for his mercy in giving us wind these days)

Any pilot interested in these posts? Please come forward. (who want to be the 風水佬?) I will contact the oversea liaisons in respective countries.

By the way, a preliminary web page has been set up for the TR2010. Here it is the link.
http://www.hkrcss.org/HKF3F/TyphoonRace2010.html
Note that most information is not available yet. We will insert more details when they are ready.

Cheers!

Hi Stanley

I just came back from Brisbane, Australia. I visited this place called Beechmont, Rosins lookout. A beautiful place for F3F typhoon race. I spoke to Kane Moley of www.slopeplanes.com about the possibility of hosting the Typhoon race in the future. He lead me to contact Eric (Ezza nick in RCGroup). They know the owner of the slope site and am sure they can make arrangement to allow us to host the F3F race there.

Beechmont is about 1.5hrs from Brisbane city or about 45min from Gold Coast. It has beautiful green slope without rocks or trees. Clean ridge, toilet, picnic bench and BBQ pit nearby. The slope face S- SE and the best time for sloping is during their winter season.

For the families, there Gold Coast that is 45min away, there theme parks, big shopping mall and accommodation is apartment style. Let me know what you think?

Hi Dennis,

Thanks for your information. If Beechmont is a good potential site and close to Brisbane, I can see that there will be a large number of interested pilots. It would be wonderful if a future Typhoon Race can be held there. As far as I know there are a few scattered groups of F3F activities in Australia now, I am not sure whether they can join together to organize an international event. Without sufficient man power resource to run a big event, it would be very difficult for them even though they have wonderful flying slopes. I really hope they would try and consider holding TR2011. Cheers!

Hello F3F pilots,

Well, we had an organizing committee meeting weeks ago and came out a suggestion that we should move the contest date from October 1-3 a week later to October 8-10. The reason for this is; October 1 is Chinese national day and there will be lot of Chinese tourists coming to Hong Kong, it would be very difficult for us to get sufficient hotel rooms. Even though we can, it will be much more expensive.

By moving to October 8-10, however, it also clashes with Taiwan national day (October 10). we are also worrying that some Taiwanese pilots may not be able to come. I have asked Ah Sang in Taiwan to channel our concern for moving the date one week later to the Taiwanese pilots, and it seems that we have no major concern up to now, so we will make the decision to move the contest date to October 8-10. If there is no other suggestion, I would update our web information and send emails to overseas pilots to notify them the change accordingly. Let's pray for good wind!

Cheers!

My mistake, Nov - Mar is Australia summer.

I didn't get a chance to meet Eric (Ezza) but from what Kane told me, he the DSing champion in Australia and he also flies F3F.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your offer, we definitely need more pilots to help organizing the forcoming Typhoon Race. We will have another committee meeting possibly in April, let you know by then.

By the way, don't forget that we will have the first F3F contest for the year 2010 the coming Sunday. See you then!

Typhoon Race 2010 is coming!
I have put up more information about the race in the official web site with registration details:
http://www.hkrcss.org/HKF3F/TyphoonRace2010.html

Since we couldn't get hold of a good of accommodation location to hold all of us together (overseas and locals) during the contest period, we stick with the original plan as in HK Open 2007 that recommending overseas pilots staying in Regal Riverside hotel in Shatin.

I have already received some enquiries from overseas pilots for attending TR2010, so I would expect that the participation rate is pretty high this year. We now set the upper limit of pilots to 50, but it would be preferable to be kept at 40 so that the number of rounds that can be run for this two and half day event would be sufficient. In view of this, we probably need to limit the number of local pilots to, say, 15 depending on the real situation when time approaches. We will discuss this issue in the meeting the coming Sunday to get some consensus and rules of selection if needed.

Registration is now opened. Please see the registration page
http://www.hkrcss.org/HKF3F/TR2010_reg.html
Unfortunately, there is a technical security problem that automatically requests password for submission which shouldn't be there, anyway the web hosting company is now working to resolve it. I hope you can register in the next few days, if not just send me the registration information by email.

See you all in TR2010!
