Windguru forecast of the day is 7m/s East wind :D and no rain :o . Probably the first successful race of this year. So get your weapon polished and don't be late. :P

Let's pray! 8)  8)

Let's pray! 8)

Hi all,

We have tried both the old and new flying site in Ma On Shan yesterday. What do you think about the new site? To me I prefer the new site for a more straight track and better lift condition. For landing there are rocks but there is also long grass. Point to the long grass and the landing should be safe even the plane is a little bit fast. Walking to landing site is acceptable as it is very common in many competitions. My only concern is the safety of the parachute when we are landing. Unlike the old site that we have many people help to alert the pilots for the comming parachutes, in the new site the pilot needs to watch for the parachutes, controlling his model and walking to the landing site all at the same time. The model also needs to circling over the old site for landing approach, which is close to the parachute take off and landing area. I think we will need a "landing coordinator" when there is parachute activity there. (Like Ah Pong helped the other landing yesterday). This role can be rotated like the line judges.

One big reason we moved to the new site is to provide more space for the parachute pilots to take off and landing. But it seems that it does not work for some of them . . . :(

Will the paraglider think that we "occupied" thier path yesterday? Are they not happy becasue they use to believe the left side is their favorite "lift zone"?

We are living in a civilized country and they should approach us if they believe we are occupying thir favorite zone.

Personally, I love the straight F3F track in the left because it is faster and more exciting. More importantly, it is closer to the F3F environment in oversea with a light walk to landing.

I appreciate Ah Pong for guiding and helping others to land. It is a necessary role which can be run at roster even after our pilots can get used on the new landing condition in a few competitons. The landing guide and buzzerman in point A can take addition role on paraglider pre-alarm to pilot and CD. This arrangement is better than old track as the pilotgliders take sometime to reach the landing site after take-off.

In addition, we should mark a location in front for emergency landing.

I have a few comments after some observations of yesterday's operation in the new flying track:

1. We should enforce a rule that once a pilot has completed the run, his glider should not be allowed to enter the course again, unless there is insufficient wind or other abnormal situations.

2. There should be sufficient clearance between the landing glider and the glider on the F3F track, so I would suggest the landing area be further away from the spot where most pilots did landing yesterday. I did try the ridge slope where our old base B beeper used to sit, and found that it is very easier to land there. One other possibility is to walk further south to our original landing area. Of course, the view may be too restrictive when we are walking pass the valley, and it may not be practical during weak wind condition. So I would suggest to allow pilot to land on site (in front of the pilot area) if the wind is marginal. However, if the wind is strong enough, we can fly our glider higher during the walk to the landing area, the problem of the obstruction of view may be less critical.

3. We should recommend having a person accompanying the pilot to land, that person can guide the pilot to walk and watch out for the paragliders nearby. Actually, the landing glider can serve as a warning to scare off the approaching paraglider, and this in term protect the glider on the F3F track during run to minimize disturbance. Of course, we still could not stop those reckless paragliders intentionally invading our airspace.

The new track is definitely better; it is straight, the bases are on the same level, good view of the poles, deeper slope in both bases and hence the turning should be safer, and most importantly, it has better lift.

3) Mad Dog -
4) Sonic X -
