What is the current weight limit for RC models ?

Is it 6kg or 9kg ?

Do you think any of the companies will risk breaking the law on this project !

A 20 meter sailplane will be very heavy. Flying that plane across a build up area is not a good idea. What if someone else switch on their radio with the same band

Build one from Dr. Mark Drela's series and then get exposure with MIT University of USA as well as inviting Dr Drela to Hong Kong!!!

I would suggest flying to the waterfront of Sai Kung, and lands on the sea, it is much comfortable. Just like the paraglider flies to the abandoned field.

FYI, the max weight for exempted aircrafts is 7kg. Anything heavier than that will be considered as "real planes" by the CAD. Flying one with an on-board human pilot is only possible with an air-worthy (real) plane, otherwise it's irresponsible and probably suicidal.

The way those Jap students do it, flying off a pier wearing a safety helmat and life vest, plane structure built with light weight materials and a breakable cockpit, boats following alongside, demonstrates a lot of safety built into the system. Much safer than flying an unmanned model over populated area I would say.

I believe the CAD would not interfere with some folks jumping off a pier in a plane like costume, even if it flies a bit. And "a bit" can become 100m next year... and after you have done it for 10 years everybody accepts the status quo.

Never do it over hard land, could get someone killed.

Of course there're all sorts of "kin stuff" up there, but hey, it's not about cheap and easy flying experience. Like JFK said "not because it's easy, but because it's difficult!" That's why those students did what they did.
