Ah Yeung was returned from Swiss yesterday. He must have a lot to share with us about what he saw in the F3B WC.
Have a short conversation with him last night. It seems we have a long road ahead if we want to enter the F3B competition. . .

OK, what a great pleasure to watch the event! Well, I am totally new to F3B event. Everything I saw is new to me. It is amazing to see a 3 meter ship launched with winch and then flies far far way almost out of sight , and on the other hand it runs the speed task closed to the groud. For me, F3B is totally a good team work and the Germany team well deserves the title and honor, not only the Herrig brothers but the whole team as well. For the path of F3B in Hong Kong, sorry, I am afraid we have not started yet. (Should we had started it in 1997 when the Kai Tak airport was vacated, we may have a good team now). Should we want to start F3B now, we will face the same issues as the USA team have encountered. Knowledge, experience, flying field, etc and the pilots are at their own. Back to the F3B WC 2007, I can say that, everything puts on the plane counts. Not the money you put it, but how you thought out and apply every part and way to intall it. Say, the application of the strenght, diameter, material of the launching lines; the application of the winch. Not merely the position of the launching hook but the depth and lenght of the L shape of the hook require your tuning techniques. You see, I have not yet mentioned anything about the planes. As I have said, I am innocent to F3B, so if one wants to have an insight in the development of F3B activity, please see the the relevant multi-f3x thread at the forum in rcgroups.com for some sharing there, it is very informative already. Just as the USA team said on the rcgroups forum, if you want F3B, just get a plane that can sustain the launch, get the winch, and fly it now. Don't wait six months for a prestigous plane. |

We have some good F3B planes already, however, we need an appropriate winch and a 60A car battery and the most important, a flying field. Pilots have to assume the helper's duties also. Helpers play a very important role. They launch, running, retrieve and relauch the planes, they retrieve the launching line immediately after the lauch, they inspect the air for the pilots, they carry the car battery in and out for recharging so as to ensure the best power for the winch, they are responsible of the healthliness of the launching lines, they put the rolls of lines in water tank for cooling, and they are pilots also. So good pilots are also good helpers!! |
